Proper brutal sprinting technique tends to look poor to on water rowers with no sprint erg experience. You do have to modify your technique to some extent to achieve real sprinting splits.
Leeds Uniniversity were over 16 minutes faster. This equates to an average power output of over 20% greater than that produced by Windsor Boys. I won’t give the figures of the Open World Record set by the MAD Team but you get the idea.

I think they meant 1:06 splits for individual strokes which is pretty darned impressive.

1.06 for 500 you say? Hmm I thought the world record was 1:14

Your point is? Regardless of how short the interval those guys are really travelling and believe me that event is shockingly painful.
December 17th, 2012 at 9:24 pm
1.06 for 500m? that is pretty much what olympic rowers would struggle to get…
December 17th, 2012 at 10:03 pm
they barely look like a hundred meters each unless their splits are really that low, in which case it still cant be much more than 250
December 17th, 2012 at 10:14 pm
Not all of them were rowers they were going for crazy people with brute force and endurance. some of the splits were around 1.06 for 500m

I’d have to agree with Sydien, the technique looked like shit. Does that crew also row as well (water)?

They beat the old J18 Record. Not the BUSA U23 Record. A lot of people make this mistake. Correct me if I’m wrong though.
Open MAD Team IRC 4:12:46 2004
U23 Leed University 4:28:27 2006
U18 Windsor Boys 4:45:48 2007

No boner required. Just giving the Leeds boys their due. Respect to WBS. It will be tough having a crack at their record.

Its sprint rowing. Essentially a totally different sport. You can be good at both but technically they are very different.

NO they didn’t.
